Each June, First Focus on Children hosts Children’s Week <\/em>with a schedule of events aimed at urging Congress to better protect the health, safety, and well-being of America\u2019s children. This Children\u2019s Week shines a light on the challenges facing our children \u2014 challenges like hunger, homelessness, poverty, and gun violence. But we must act in the best interests of our children each and every day. This year, throughout the week of June 8-14<\/strong>, we look forward to working with members of Congress and our partner advocates to bring awareness to some of the most pressing issues facing the nation\u2019s children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Focus on Children and others in the children\u2019s community gathered on June 9th, 2025 for a Children’s Week Welcome Reception. This event served as a great opportunity to make new connections and reconnect with long-time partners \u2014 bring together all Champions for Children \u2014 whether you\u2019re a member of Congress, congressional staffer, advocate, parent, or provider \u2014 because this work takes all of us. The event was an evening to celebrate kids and uplift the ways we can work together to make progress. The event also featured special Remarks from Representatives Morgan McGarvey, Johnny Olszewski, and Alma Adams.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Focus Campaign for Children \u2014 in cooperation with the Congressional Dads Caucus and Congressional Mamas\u2019 Caucus \u2014 held a briefing on the ways the budget reconciliation package puts the health, nutrition, economic security, and education of children at risk on June 11, 2025. While many supporters of this bill claim that children will not be harmed by the changes made in budget reconciliation, this is just not true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


First Focus Campaign for Children asserts it is impossible to achieve the level of funding cuts set forth in the bill without causing direct and indirect impacts to the health and well-being of children and families. This Children’s Week conversation highlights the outlined changes to Medicaid, SNAP, and tax credits, and shares what these proposals could mean for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal programs play a critical role in supporting the development and well-being of children. This briefing will highlight the power of programs such as TANF, SNAP, and Medicaid to better the lives of children. We will focus on how Hispanic families currently utilize these supports and how implementation policies and outreach efforts can help improve uptake to ensure all children have access to the programs they qualify for. This conversation comes at a critical time, as budget negotiations regarding the future of these programs continue.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
